Ken's Fremont church family

Fremont Presbyterian Church was a huge part of Ken's life. He sang in the Saints Alive Choir until last year when his heart wouldn't support the vigor he wanted. My childhood memories of the church at 36th and J St are still vivid- the mystery of sneaking to the back of the gym and climbing up to the top of the steeple, the hidden passage behind the choir loft at the front of the church. Moving out by State College (as it was known then) was exciting, but also carried controvery as the beloved gym at 36th & J wasn't part of the original budget- that gym was part of the church ministry, bringing low income kids from the 16th St ministry to play basketball, where many of us became friends though summer camp. During my high school years when the Youth group met at the "White House" (now demolished and replaced with a larger building), my Youth Minister, Doug Huneke, had a picture on his wall of Jesus, head tilted back in an uproarious laugh. Ken's Fremont family loved him, and we'd love to hear your stories about Ken and Fremont, including any about 15th and O Street.

Dear Calvin and John, I am so sorry to only now be learning of your dad's death. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Your dad was a great and wonderful character and I always loved your mom -- straight forward and always right on target. I miss you, be in touch, and take care. Doug Huneke

Calvin and John,

Know you both, and your families, are in my prayers. I last spoke with your father at Hugh's services at Fremont--he showed his caring and enjoyment of the memories of your (& Hugh & George's) youthful "adventures" with a twinkle in his eye.

Take care.
