Welcome Friends and family. Please log your stories about Ken on this blog.

Ken's memorial service will be held Wednesday 11am Nov 26 at Fremont Presbyterian Church, 5770 Carlson Drive, Sacramento, CA, 95819 . In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to the Fremont Music Program, 916-452-7132.

Ken lived the life of his savior, practicing kindness and compassion with everyone he met. A child of the Great Depression, his life was and is a testament to the perserverence of his generation. His constant optimism gave us all hope for a better world, and reminded us that life is a previous gift. He will be missed.

Uncle Ken has been a part of my life since before I could remember. When I was brought home from the hospital, Uncle Ken and Aunt Maxine were there to support my parents who I’m sure had no idea what to do with their first child. For the first five years of my life, Uncle Ken was a mentor, a babysitter, a friend; but most importantly, someone who taught me what it meant to love and be loved. My fondest memories with Uncle Ken revolve around great food and great company, as he unceasingly sought to make sure everyone was as comfortable as possible. Making homemade peach ice cream in the backyard, picking oranges from the neighbor’s tree, getting a fire started up at the cabin, learning how to play Chinese checkers; these childhood memories are priceless, and something I will never forget. He imparted his wisdom of how to live a full life through how he lived his, constantly giving of himself to help our family and his community. The way in which he interacted with me began to shape who I was to become long before the importance of such a foundation was evident. Thank you Uncle Ken for teaching us what it means to live. You were a person who genuinely cared for all those you came into contact with, something that was very evident in the love and attention given to me. Thank you for sending cards year after year for my birthday, thank you for caring so much; you were truly a blessing in my life. I will continue to pray for the repose of your soul, and may we both someday come to feast at the heavenly banquet together.

In Christ,

Absolve, we beseech Thee, O Lord,
the soul of Thy servant Ken Van Zee,
from every bond of sin,
that being raised in the glory of the resurrection,
he may be refreshed among the Saints and Elect.
Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
